ü  Verbs “avoir” (to have) and “aller”  (to go) at the present tense
ü  Possessive adjectives.

Terry Fox Run

Dear Parents,
Assalamu Alaikum

Last Wednesday, the students at Abraar Elementary School participated in the Terry Fox National School Run. I must say that it was a success, MashaAllah! Everyone from grade one to grade six participated either through walking or running. It was heartwarming to see the students participate in such large numbers. In addition, I want to share something incredibly sweet with all of you. The JKs and SKs were not able to run, so they decided to do something to help out. The teachers started "A Toonie for Terry" where each child brings two dollars to help in Terry's cause. I was overjoyed to see the amount of toonies raised.

Pledges are starting to come in, MashaAllah! Please note that all pledges need to be returned to school by October 7, 2014, inshaAllah.

I would like to give a big heartfelt thank you to everyone for their participation and generous donations. Jazakum Allahu Kharain.
Have a wonderful day, inshallah.
Sincerely,

Welcome From Tr. Hadia

Sept. 19th, 2014.

Dear Parents,
Assalamo Allikum.
My name is Hadia Arabi Katbi. I am your child’s Quran teacher. In this welcoming letter, I ask Allah Almighty to make this school year a successful one, and to help us make the Quran reach our children’s tongues and hearts. My utmost goal in my classroom is to make your child learn how to read the Quran properly Inshallah. Also, your child will be memorizing some Suras of the Quran.
I will keep you informed of your child’s progress in memorization and learning through the student agenda which will be the main communication line between me and the parents. On a weekly basis, you will find in the agenda the ayas we plan to study and memorize and when the ayas are due for testing. Please do check the agenda at least once a week to check on your child progress as I will write notes and comments in case your child is not progressing.
Inshallah, with your help, support and feedback, you will notice a big difference in your child’s Quran reciting. Please feel free to contact me through the school number or my email.

Welcome

September 4, 2014
Dear Student and Parents/Guardians,
Assalamu Alaikom Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
I hope you’ve had a prosperous summer, Ramadan and Eid. My name is Dina Zaazaa and I will be your child’s homeroom teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. I will be teaching Math, Science, Islamic Studies, Art, and Health/Gym. I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my classroom. Although this will be my second year working at Abraar School, I do have more than ten years of teaching experience and I have no doubt that my work with the Abraar community will enrich this experience even more.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with him/her to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences and learning creatively. It is my goal to create a community of learners who are committed to working hard and having fun. I want students to leave my classroom feeling confident that they can apply what they’ve learned in school to real-life situations. I want my students to feel challenged and to have an enhanced passion for learning.
It is important that my students know they can seek my assistance in any matter they find difficulty with; they need to know I am there for them. Collaboration, cooperation, and open communication between home and school are keys to building a strong foundation for a successful school year.  Please feel free to contact me at anytime. I can be reached through the school phone number 613-226-1396 or by email at dzaazaa@abraarschool.com . I am always happy to talk to the families of my students.
Sincerely,

Dina Zaazaa

Message from the Librarian

Dear Parents,
Assalamu Alaikum

I hope this message finds you well and in good health.

Summer vacation is just a little over two weeks away, and everyone will be having fun in the summer sun, inshaAllah. Before you leave for this long awaited summer vacation, I would like to ask you a question. Have you heard of the Summer Slide? If not, the Summer Slide is when all that hard work that your child has put into reading throughout the school year is lost because he or she is no longer reading during the summer months. The good news is that a few actions can prevent this slide. The following are some suggestions:

    - Take your son or daughter to the public library every week and borrow many books. Let your child be the guide to choosing the books. If your son or daughter is to enjoy reading, he or she needs to like what he or she is reading. In addition, public libraries have an excellent summer reading program. It is a good idea to take advantage of it.

    - If transportation is an issue, and a trip to the library on a weekly basis will be hard to do, then you can use Bookflixthroughout the summer months, inshaAllah. All you need to do is email me at nbrethour@ abraarschool.com, and I will be happy to provide your child with a username and password. All that I need is your child’s first and last name and your child’s grade (Please note that Bookflix is for children in SK to grade 3).  With Bookflix, your child will be able to read or read along with a variety of fiction and nonfiction e-books.

   - Please read to your child or have your child read to you. It is paramount to keep is practice going. Not only is it quality/bonding time between parent and child, but this practice will increase your child's vocabulary and imagination, inshaAllah.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via email.

Have an enjoyable, safe, and relaxing summer vacation, inshaAllah.

Happy Reading!
